Add protection and peace of mind while exploring in the back country with the Van Compass rear differential skid plate. Loss of gear oil due to a cracked housing or leaking cover can be catastrophic to the rear differential. This skid plate protects the driveshaft u-joints, cast iron differential center section and lower portion of the thin sheet metal differential cover. Constructed from 1/4" thick steel and powder coated for corrosion resistance to provide a strong, smooth surface to slide over obstacles on the trail. The skid system bolts on in minutes with simple hand tools. Gear oil changes can still easily be performed without skid plate removal.

Sprinter 2500 differential skid plate installation instructions:
LABOR TIMES
Driveway install on a floor jack. Lifted into place and most of the hardware installed without issue. Tightening down the forward u-bolt would pinch the socket and prevents easy, even torque build up. So, I torqued down the front driver bolt first and finished up the others. Less than an hour.
Installed on a 2019 VS30 4wd 2500, both access holes for the front U-Bolt are offset to the passenger side so it was near impossible to get a socket on the front U-Bolt nuts. After spending way too long, prying, banging and cussing, I was able to get the U-Boltsnuts installed and tightened down.
May have been a manufacturing defect but should be addressed before shipping any more of these.
I was able to install this in about an hour without a jack. I stacked some boards under it to raise it most of the way. Then, it was easy to get the U-bolts in place and start the nuts. It took some effort to align it properly. But after that, it was easy to torque the nuts. I will say that the forward U-bolt holes were a bit of a trick because my socket fit the holes exactly. There was not much room for any skew because of that. Probably for the better, though.
I would recommend that everyone who runs their 4x4 Sprinter on 4WD roads at least get this skid plate. The differential oil pan juts down below the housing. Any rock or boulder can peel it off enough to drain all of the gear oil. You don’t want to be doing those repairs on a 4WD road!
As with all Van Compass products the fit is top notch and purpose built.
Installed this on my ‘23 AWD prior to its’ first trip to Moab. Slammed the skid plate twice on the first trail doing things I shouldn’t be. Bullet proof. No issues.
