Works as designed but I didn't use it for an air system - it's great for anything - I installed a water-tight Pelican box on top of this mount - I bring all my electrical from the battery into this box - runs a bus that powers my winch, fog lights - with fuses and excess capacity. Took about 30 minutes to install.
Love this mount! This helped make an onboard air install on my 2017 4x4 Sprinter a straightforward process. Huge props to Van Compass too for doing a writeup on their blog on how they installed a VIAIR system on their shop van - I followed the instructions for the install on our van and it came out great. I have a fuse block under the hood that was in the way for the install so I just relocated it to the side of this mount, and now it's much more accessible for future projects. Thanks Van Compass!
I got one of the prototypes from the guys at VC. Tha Mount is great. The Viair compressor and tank fit perfectly in the aux battery spot. I rigged up quick connect air chucks in the bumper and inside the rear door. I’ve popped the bead on tubeless MTB tires, aired up van tires, blown out the van, blown off the bikes after dusty late summer MTB rides, and was able to blow out a rock that got lodged in the brake caliper (saved out butt!). Being able to repair flat tires in a pinch with the compressor is great. Onboard air is key for those that like to leave the pavement.
Note that after a year, I moved the compressor to a different location. Not just for onboard air! I’m still using the compressor mount. It is now the platform for my coolant expansion tank for my diesel fired hot water system. Still lots of room there for a full sized air horn. The compressor mount provides a great platform for all sorts of DIY projects.
