TIRE FITMENT GUIDES

Our suspension systems help unlock the potential to increase tire size and achieve a more aggressive stance for better handling and stability. Wheel choice is vital to finding the right look for your van and plays a critical role in determining what size tire will fit. We've prepared these guides to assist you in your decision process.

For a great tire size comparison tool, we recommend clicking here. You can compare and contrast virtually any tire size quickly and easily. There are simply too many variables for us to give a complete list, so please contact your installer or tire shop for their recommendations before ordering wheels and tires.

Wheel manufacturers list several metrics to specify wheel dimensions and fitment. Offset and backspace are related, but frequently misunderstood.

Backspacing: Measures the distance of the wheel mounting surface, relative to the inside edge of the wheel shell. Backspacing determines the amount of clearance with the suspension components. A smaller number brings the mounting surface closer to the inside edge for a 'deeper' look and better clearance for larger tires. (Orange graphics)

Offset: Measures the distance of the wheel mounting surface, relative to the center of the wheel shell. Positive numbers move the mounting surface outward towards the face; negative moves the mounting surface inward and away from the face for a 'deeper' look. (Blue graphics)

Wheel Spacers: Wheel spacers are used to help create more clearance. Wheel spacers have the same effect as decreasing your backspacing, or reducing the amount of positive offset a wheel has. This is helpful when managing tire to strut body clearance.

Sprinter 2500 4x4 and 2wd, Recommended Wheel Size: 17" x 8", +45mm offset, 6.27" backspacing

Sprinter 2500 AWD, Recommended Wheel Size: 17" x 8", +38mm offset, 6" backspacing

Sprinter 3500 ALL Drive types, Recommended Wheel Size: Stock

NOTE: Wheels with 6.5" backspacing, or +52mm offset on an 8" wheel, require a minimum 14 mm wheel spacer to prevent tire contact with auxiliary shocks at full steering angle. EX: Black Rhino Warlord, Method 701

NOTE: Maximum tire size for retention of Adaptive Cruise Control, Adaptive Brake Assist functions is 32.2" diameter. Recommended max tire size is 275/75R17. (APPLIES TO 4X4 MODELS ONLY, AWD OK TO EXCEED)

Transit RWD Single Rear wheel, Recommended Wheel Size: 17" x 8", +45mm offset, 6.27" backspacing

Transit AWD Single Rear wheel, Recommended Wheel Size: 16 x 6.5", +90mm offset, 7.29" backspacing

Transit Dual Rear wheel, Recommended Wheel Size: Stock

NOTE: 3/16" wheel spacers only recommended for use on front axle, and are intended for use with stock wheels.

Sprinter 2500 4x4 and 2wd, Recommended Wheel Size: 17" x 8", +45mm offset

Sprinter 3500 ALL Drive types, Recommended Wheel Size: Stock

NOTE: Wheels with 6.5" backspacing, or +52mm offset on an 8" wheel, will likely require a spacer to prevent tire contact with auxiliary shock reservoirs at full steering angle.

Wheels and tires should be carefully chosen based on the load rating of both the wheel and tire package, and for the intended use of the van. NEVER exceed a wheel or tire manufacturer's load rating.
