Add protection and peace of mind while exploring in the back country with the Van Compass rear differential skid plate. Loss of gear oil due to a cracked housing or leaking cover can be catastrophic to the rear differential. This skid plate protects the driveshaft u-joints, cast iron differential center section and lower portion of the thin sheet metal differential cover. Constructed from 1/4" steel and powder coated for corrosion resistance to provide a strong, smooth surface to slide over obstacles on the trail. The skid system bolts on in minutes with simple hand tools. Detailed instructions and all necessary hardware is included.

Bolts too short and stripped thread in housing

Quality and fit of skid plate is great. The bolts included with the kit are the same length as the original bolts and with the thickness of the skid plate flange the new bolts do not have the reach to grab the differentials original thread. Also torquing to recommended pressure caused stripping of two bolt holes in the differential. Now I have to get slightly longer bolts and hopefully they will grab the remaining threads or I will have to do a helicoil insert. This SHOULD NOT happen with an “easy” to install product. I also bought struts , shackle extender , and add-a-leaf springs for my transit and was very satisfied.
